Being poor over the age of 50, thoughts, life and discussion of such, to follow
Let's face it, who wants to be economically poor after the ripe age of 50?, no one does.
But in reality more and more people are indeed reaching the age of 50, and in some cases worse off economically than were 20 years prior (Life happens man).
Is why many get sick of hearing those 'Dave Ramsey' fiscal shows, or Clark Howard shows (he retired from radio), or many number of other shows where all they discuss in 'wealth', or future wealth.
Those shows seem good if had listened to while 20 or 30, but many of us, at least if age 50 and still a check to check type, many of us like that never even thought we'd reach the age of 50, or if did thought we'd of won the lottery by now or had some other good fortune happen to us, but nope, here we are, age 50 and above and still working check to check as if just graduated high school a week ago.
The only difference is now you're more tired and weary, and possibly not in as good of health.
I mean its one thing to reach the age of 50, it's another thing to reach the age of 50 and be in good health.
So let me say this, if indeed you're reading this and are 50 and above...congradulations!! (I'm over 50 and still can't spell), but ye, consider yourself apart of a rare club, especially if male, and if a minority even more so, and if black, and male, and over the age of 50, well than you're indeed apart of a rare crowd of people.
That being said let's continue.
Not everyone over the age of 50 was keen enough or corrupt enough to sham the system when younger or get onto a Gov job with plenty of 'old people' benefits, most over the age of 50, at least if a male, and still check to check, we were the types that were dumb enough to think 'Just working hard everyday' would pay off, what a pile of crock...that 'just work hard' crap went out with the Normal Walkwell paintings.
The idea that working hard alone pays off went out with his paintings, that economic reality just doesn't exist anymore.
Hard work simply wears your body out before you can get a good return on your labor.
Wealthy people don't work hard, they invest smartly, or receive enormous incomes, or invent stuff, get stuff they invented stuff ect, but it's not like wealthy people are working hard in a field picking potatoes.
And or to be fair, there are plenty of people who started off blue collar and earned decent money, and saved their money properly, invested it, and ect...there are plenty of ways to accumilate extra old age income if orientated that way, but many are not, and most are simply day to day types who just assume life will work out for 'us' or 'them', or that they'll die before any of it matters.
But for those of us who didn't 'die off' and are still here in this wacky dacky world, the following posts will just be general thoughts about economic challenges for those of us over the age of 50 who aren't rich, and still living check to check basically, still employed and working right along next to people half our age or younger.
The following posts will play out more like the 'Twilight Zone' though, or 'The Simpson's' or even 'Sanford and Son' ect.
Abstract mixed in with reality, mixed in with happy and sad thoughts, mixed in with 1st person expressions, mixed in with 3rd person expressions.
So sit back, relax and just read and more importantly share, thanks and be well.
